The Mariners ruined my opening on this newsletter by winning yesterday. I’ve got the game today and was going to bitch about this being the second time this year I was going with them on a six game losing streak. I’d rather be staying home watching the World Cup final. I’ll DVR it but the results will be given away around the second or third Read the rest of this entry »

A couple weeks ago I wrote I was excited about the World Cup soccer “football” tournament, though I wasn’t sold on the game itself, more-so the national pride involved. Well, I’ve now watched at least six games in part or in their entirety and I’ve got to say that I’m starting to get the appeal, at least at this World Cup level. Read the rest of this entry »

If I’d have know in January and February, when we were having spring like warm weather, that we’d be paying for it after by having four months in a row of March like cold, crappy, rainy weather, I’d have said “Bring on the snow!!” I think we’re going to get ripped off on our summer this year. It seems to happen around here every few years or so that we only get two months of summer. Read the rest of this entry »

Paula’s out enjoying the sun, so it’s up to me, again, to deliver the goods. As has been noted before, I’m kind of challenged by the process of putting the newsletter and the shipping list that goes with it. I’m pleased to say that this time went much smoother that previous ones, though I’m not out of the woods yet. As for the nice weather, it’s about freakin’ time!! I’ve seen enough grey to last me a long, long time.
Next Saturday June 19th we’re helping sponsor the KGRG Summer Riot music concert being put on by our radio pals at Green River Community College, KGRG. It’ll be at Jazz Bones in Tacoma (2803 6th Ave.), starting at 1:00 pm. Paula will be there handing out comics and other stuff, and we’ll be providing door prizes too. There’s a bunch of local bands playing, including headliner Window Pane and about seven more. It’s $8.00 at the door, and all ages are welcome. This show was originally scheduled to be at Green River, and outdoors too, but some knucklehead administrator at Green River decided to schedule a construction project that required all the power on the campus to be turned off, the same day as the concert, but they didn’t bother to tell anyone until just last week.

Rick’s Writin’s

Went out to my car this morning and noticed a spider about the size of a pinky fingernail had made a web off of my driver’s side view mirror.  I don’t like to mess with spiders, and not because I’m afraid of them. Unless they sneak up on me, like in the shower or on my bed, I leave them alone. Sometimes I’ll scoop them up and put them outside, but I don’t kill them. They’re smart, the webs can be beautiful, and they run away when you try to kill them, so they’re aware, more so I think than just self preservation. I had one that lived for two years in a door jam of an apartment I lived in. I used to feed it ants and flies. The spider on my car chose a poor spot for a web, but I decided to let nature take its course and got in my car to do my errand. As we drove, the web came apart, into a strand, and that spider clung to it, waving in the wind. It’s well known how strong spider webbing is, though you don’t want to be dangling at the end of it because you might get your neck snapped. The webbing held stuck to the car and even up to thirty five MPH, that spider hung on. Eventually, he climbed up the strand and grabbed onto the mirror itself. When I was all done with my errand, he was still there. Talk about resilient. I figured he had enough adventure so I prodded him onto a leafy tree branch to find a new home. I was pretty impressed, and again, nature had fascinated me. Then, Ollie puked all over the inside of my car. Fun times! Let’s get to the comics talk.

We will be closed Monday, May 31st for Memorial Day. New Comics Day will be Thursday, June 3rd, this week due to the holiday.
