The last two Lantern Rings in the set are yours to be had as Justice League (#39) and the Red Rage ring arrives along with Blackest Night (#5) and the coveted Green Lantern ring. In Blackest Night #5 we finally find out who’s the power behind the Black Lanterns, while the Justice League deals with their constant pain in the ass villain Dr. Light, an un-dead Black Lantern. There’s no stopping this guy!! Green Lantern (#48) is also in the mix, and though you don’t get a ring, you DO get Saint Walker versus Sinestro and Agent Orange with the Orange Lanterns versus the Black Lanterns. Too bad it’s a month past, otherwise the Orange and Black Lanterns would be great guests at a Halloween party. Lots more Justice being doled out by DC this week as the Justice Society (#33) finds a traitor in its midst, and Shazam and Supergirl join the Justice League in beautifully painted Justice League: Cry for Justice (#5 of 7) mini. More Blackest Night too, with the Teen Titans (#77) having fun with the return as Black Lanterns of many of the now dead former Titans. I bet the Titans have lost more members than most any other team, so there’s lots of Black Lanterns coming.
Marvel isn’t sitting on the sidelines this week, as many of their main books are on the list. For those of you wondering where Thor has been, wait no more. The last part of the J. Michael Straczynski written arc has been put into Thor: Giant Sized Finale, featuring Loki and Dr. Doom!! The Straczynski Thor arc was nominated for an Eisner award, so you don’t want to miss this one. Amazing Spider-Man (#613) continues a new story: The Gauntlet, hopefully a better story than the crappy Clint Eastwood movie of the same name. (I would never say crappy and Clint Eastwood in the same sentence, except when talking about “The Gauntlet”. It is the only movie of his I don’t like, because it’s clear his co-star and gal pal at the time, Sondra Locke is carrying his family jewels around in her pocket the whole picture.) Plenty more Spider-Man, with more Gauntlet, in Web of Spider-Man (#2). Peter is hanging out with the ladies too, as he teams with Spider-Woman to fight a secret villain in New Avengers (#59) and in Ms. Marvel (#47) Carol Danvers has to make good on her promise to go out with the Ol’ Web Head. Mary Jane must be having fits. Many of you have said that the current run of Invincible Iron Man (#20) is the best Marvel story going right now. Tony Stark has gone through the mill as of late, and it’s not going to get any better soon as the new arc Stark: Disassembled starts in this issue. Big doings for this story as it leads to an issue #25 blockbuster this summer (the new Iron Man movie opens beginning of May). New Hulk (#17) and Fantastic Four (#573) as well.
It’s not just the giants that have the goods this week. After a year or more hiatus, Brian Michael Bendis’ Powers (#1) is back, with art by long time partner Michael Avon Oeming. Detective Walker has a new partner, Enki Sunrise, as they investigate murders tied to super-powers. I’ve read almost all of the Powers books and it’s one of my favorites. Bendis’ letter column, one of the book’s highlights, is also back and the promise is this book will be monthly. That’s been a problem in the past, so I hope they can stick to the schedule. This new run is supposed to be a good jumping on point, so I hope some of you folks try it out. For those peanut mailing crybabies out there (you know who you are) that lamented the demise of the Jericho TV series, good news everybody!! In the same style as Buffy Season 8 and Angel: After the Fall, you get Jericho Season Three (#1 of 6) in comic form from Devil’s Due. Written by series writers Dan Shotz and Robert Levine, this book’s story, “Civil War”, picks up where the season two cliff-hanger left off. New Previews and Wizard magazines also, and foodie detective Tony Chu starts a new story “International Flavor” in Chew (#6) along with the first Chew trade paperback collecting the first five issue story arc of this hot new title. Please check the shipping list below as there’s many more important books arriving than I had room to talk about. That’s it for now.

We will be getting comics on Wednesday as usual this week. Next week, comics will be Thursday due to Thanksgiving. I also wanted to remind everyone about our Holiday Wishlist! Don’t forget to fill one out next time you’re in!
Speaking of Thanksgiving, we’re finally getting in the trade paperback for Chew! Chew is a story about a cop (Tony Chu) that is a chibopath, which means that he knows the story of what he’s eating. Where’s it’s been, how it died, that kind of stuff. It takes place in a near future where chicken has been banned because of the bird flu. Tony Chu is a cop hunting down people selling black market chicken and he gets hired by the FDA which is now kind of like the ATF. I think it’s a very appropriate read for Turkey Day. Also, we’ll be getting the newest issue of Chew that picks up right after the trade paperback.
Beasts of Burden #3 is coming out this week as well. It’s about a group of dogs (and cats) that solve paranormal mysteries kind of like Hellboy. The last issue was fantastic. It made me cry. I never expected an Evan Dorkin story to make me cry. And Jill Thompson’s painted art is gorgeous!
We’re also getting a few new issues for you to feast on this Thanksgiving! Powers is back! Still written by Brian Michael Bendis with art by Michael Avon Oeming, they are back on a monthly schedule. It’s a great starting point for new readers and for all of you long time readers, the letters column is back! Jericho Season 3 #1 starts a new ongoing series that continues where the TV series left off. This book is written by the original writing team for the series, so you will not be disappointed! Thor Giant Size Finale #1 wraps up the Thor storyline by J. Michael Straczynski. Image United #1 gathers all of the Image characters and their creators together to fight the biggest threat to the universe! Tick New Series #1 is a new ongoing series for all of you Tick fans! Spooooon!
I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!
